It has been a busy and exciting day for HEALS! Today, we broke ground on the new Dental and Optometry clinic directly behind our existing medical clinic on the grounds of Madison Cross Roads Elementary in Toney, AL.
This soon-to-be clinic is quite a miracle and a product of community collaboration that includes Madison County Schools, the North Alabama Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors, BB&T’s Lighthouse Project, The Holy Name of Jesus Hospital Trust and countless other volunteers from the community who have joined the efforts to renovate a trailer that will serve as a HEALS dental and optometry clinic providing free services to underprivileged children.
The third annual Walter Jones’ Turkey Bowl for HEALS, November 23 & 24th, will raise funds for staffing and supplies. Can you find our Walter Jones’ Turkey in the picture? Coming soon on facebook, you will have the chance to name it!
This will be our second dental clinic, and it will be the first time HEALS has been able to offer optometry services! Our current dental clinic is located at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in Huntsville, along with four school-based medical clinics serving many of Huntsville and Madison County’s most underprivileged children. This “miracle” clinic is expected to open no later than January 1, 2014.
We are always blown away by the enthusiasm and love that the community has for HEALS. Thank you to everyone that came to support us today, as well as everyone that has helped with our clinics in the past. You continue to inspire us, and we know that this momentum will only grow!
